Breastfeeding Minis

I was 17 when I had my twins. They were born at 30 weeks, spent 2 months in the NICU and so that whole situation combined with me having no idea what I was doing, they were formula fed. Not to mention there were two of them…I give serious props to mamas who breastfeed two babies at once!! With my new sweet baby, Veda, I was determined to breastfeed. It was way harder than I imagined it would be in the beginning but here we are, almost 5 months of exclusively breastfeeding and I could not be happier that I was so determined and pushed through. Let me say that I have absolutely nothing against formula feeding. As I mentioned, my 5 year olds were on formula their entire first year and I am not at all ashamed of it. I still bonded with them, I still loved feeding them, I still fed my babies and my love for them is not any less just because they weren’t breastfed. Nourishing our babies is the most important thing, whether it is from the breast or from the bottle, breast milk from mama, donor milk or formula.

All of that being said…I am loving this experience. Something about nourishing my baby for 9 months during pregnancy, and then another year (or more!) after birth is just amazing to me. Some of my favorite moments of the past 5 months with Veda are when her little eyes are staring up at me, with total contentment, as she fills her little belly. It’s demanding and exhausting sometimes – but incredibly fulfilling. And it’s something to celebrate! So I wanted to do just that. August 1st-7th is world breastfeeding week. I invited 30 mamas to come spend some time in front of my camera while feeding their babies – and provided them with some images of these sweet, quiet moments.
